What’s the World Design Rankings all about?
In a nutshell, the World Design Rankings (or WDR) ranks countries based on the number of designers that have been granted the prestigious A’ Design Award. Unofficially tagged as the “Olympics of Design,” the WDR aims to push designers around the world to represent their countries, exercise their brain muscles, and innovate ideas. The rankings give an insight on the design potentials of different countries by showcasing their creative strength and highlighting opportunities. Ultimately, it all boils down to promoting global design.

Who ranked number one in the 2018 WDR Rankings?
The United States topped the 2018 rankings with 48 Platinum Awards. China isn’t too far behind with 45 and Japan with 43. The other countries in the top ten are Italy, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Turkey, Taiwan, Portugal and Australia. In case you were wondering, Canada is ranked number 18 among all the countries in the list. Here’s the ranking of the 100 countries included in the list:

So, what is the A’ Design Award And Competition?
As the name suggests, it’s a award given to the best of the best in the field of design. But what makes it different? It provides a fair, ethical and competitive platform for artists of all ages and backgrounds. People from all walks of life can join this competition. It recognizes the best designs and introduces them to the international public through the A’ Design Award Gala-Night and Exhibition in Italy. The A’ Design Award provides extensive and intensive publicity to the participants and winners, too. If you are proud of your work and you want to leave an impact in the world of design, joining the contes this is a good way to do it.

Who can join?
Anyone and everyone! Designers, innovators and companies are invited to participate in the the A’ Design Award and Competition. The contest welcomes interested parties from different design fields, experience levels, and art forms. And don’t worry if you aren’t quite finished with your art work just yet – the A’ Design Award is open to both concept-stage and realized work from all entities in all countries in all disciplines.

Who picks the winners?
For the 2019 competition there are 211 (Yes, bro, 211!) Jury Members tasked to judge the competition. The International Design Academy – The Grand A’ Design Award Jury Panel is composed of experts from different backgrounds, including prominent designers, press members, entrepreneurs and academics. You can be confident that each member of the jury has the right qualifications to be decision-makers in the competition.

Where can I see the previous winners?
In 2018, there were 1964 Winners from 99 countries in 98 different design disciplines. You can look at the winning works here. BTW, we’ll look at the pieces and come up with a list of items that a gentleman like you might be interested in – watch out for that feature coming soon!

Aside from bragging rights, what else can the winners of the The A’ Design Award can bring home?
There are five different levels of distinction available in all design disciplines: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron.

Can I still join? When is the deadline?
Mark your calendars! The deadline for submission of entries is on February 28. If you have been thinking of ways to get recognized in your field or if you want to have the right people looking at your work, then you should definitely think of joining. Who knows? This might exactly be the break you need in your design career. Results will be announced to the public on April 15.
