Tips for Planning the Perfect Honeymoon

The wedding is coming soon, and you still aren’t sure where to go for your honeymoon, or what you should do when you get there. While traditionally women do most of the wedding planning, the honeymoon is often left to the groom. This sounds like a great division of responsibilities, however, some men put it off to the last minute.

Don’t be that guy. Take your time to plan a trip both you and your soon-to-be spouse will enjoy. Put as much effort into it as you would an important project at work. Don’t plan a backpacking trip if she hates camping and avoid boats and cruises if she has a tendency for motion sickness.

Here are some important questions and tips to help you plan the perfect honeymoon.

What’s Your Budget?

Knowing how much you can spend on the trip after the wedding is important. It’s never fun to go to a great destination only to be strapped for cash when you get there. Make sure you budget for enough money to cover all the trip costs plus a buffer for some extra fun. No one wants to be the couple who goes to Venice only to not be able to afford a gondola ride. If you need help covering some of the up-front costs like airplane tickets and hotel reservations, work with a loan company to get the cash you need. These short-term loans are a great way to make plans especially while the flights are more affordable. The longer you wait, the more expensive things will get and the more stressful it will be.

Include things like transportation, food, fine dining, and seeing critical sights at your honeymoon destination. You can either research these costs yourself or work with a travel agent to plan the trip. Sometimes a travel agent can get great deals and help you save even more money.

What Do You Like to Do?

It’s hard to plan a beach trip if one or both of you can’t swim and hate the water. Perhaps you both enjoy dancing, or you love to take photographs, or you enjoy the quiet simplicity of a mountain chalet. Using one of your common interests as a starting point for planning your trip is a great idea. It helps you pinpoint locations where you can enjoy these things together and make new memories as you start your marriage.

What Would You Like to Try?

Use your honeymoon as an opportunity to try something new. Ask your bride-to-be to give you a bucket list of things she wants to do. Make it your goal to incorporate one of these things into your honeymoon. Whether she’s always wanted to see a show on Broadway and stay at a swank hotel in Times Square, or she’s always wanted to see Niagara Falls from a boat, you can give her the experience of a lifetime. Doing new things together helps create special bonds that will help you as you embark on your marriage journey.

Where Have You Always Wanted to Go?

Got the travel bug? Think about all the places you’ve always wanted to go. The honeymoon is for both of you, but you want to keep her desires in mind as well. Ask your fiancé to give you a list of places she’s always wanted to visit and see if they match some of yours. Maybe she wants a Mediterranean cruise and you’ve always wanted to see Greece. Combine the two into one amazing trip. Make sure the honeymoon is about her needs and wants and not just yours. Or maybe you’ve both discussed RVing across the USA to see all the national parks. Only you know the best honeymoon option for your needs.

What’s the Weather Like That Time of Year?

Don’t plan a trip to Thailand in the rainy season. You’ll be stuck inside more often than not and you won’t get to enjoy all that the country has to offer. Likewise, avoid the Caribbean during hurricane season. Look at multiple different locations and the average weather during the time of year you are getting married. This simple tip can make your honeymoon more enjoyable and ensures you both get enough alone time and enough time to see all the sights you want.
