Bridal Makeup Trends for Cool Weather Weddings

Fall and winter are becoming increasingly popular times for people to host weddings. The weather is cooler, the foliage is dramatic, and you aren’t taking people away from family vacations or time at the cottage. Fall and winter weddings are also often cheaper and suppliers and vendors have more availability. For this and many more reasons, we are seeing more and more weddings held in the cooler months.

JJ’s House Designer Jessica is used to seeing lots of fall and winter brides, and she has noticed a definite trend with bridal makeup as well.

“With the beauty of the fall and winter months as your backdrop, brides often opt for more dramatic makeup to match the intensity of the season. As seasons change, makeup trends do too, so keep an eye on the changing colors and styles to see what will work best for you.”

First things first, whenever you have a big day coming up where you’ll be wearing makeup, you’ll want to be sure that you have a perfect canvas to apply that makeup to. Your skin is often a lot dryer in fall and winter as the cooler air can sap moisture from the environment. To be sure that your skin is looking its best, keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water and herbal tea and moisturize your skin religiously. A good nighttime moisturizer is a lifesaver in these dryer months and can do wonders for your skin. You’ll also want to regularly exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin or dry patches. Instead of a physical exfoliant (like beads), use a chemical exfoliant that is often gentler on the skin and only removes skin that is already dead.

In the winter months, you can be much more dramatic with your makeup. If you’re a girl who loves bold lipsticks, then your fall or winter wedding is a great time to break it out. Plums, blue-reds, or burgundies can look especially striking against pale skin and a white dress. Since you will also be doing a lot of eating, drinking, and kissing, talk with a makeup artist to find a long-lasting lipstick that also doesn’t smudge. You may look lovely in that color, but your new husband probably doesn’t want to wear it too!

Dramatic eyes are a great way to draw color and intensity into your look in the cooler months. A dark, smoky eye and a paler lip will make your eyes pop, while eyelash extensions can be a great way to add drama, length, and volume to your lashes for your big day. If you are going to be having eyelash extensions applied, we recommend you try them out for the month leading up to your wedding to make sure you like them and to understand what length and thickness you prefer.

If  you are thinking of having eyelash extensions, but unsure which eyelash extension style will suit you? There are lots of different eyelash extension styles out there, which can fit perfectly regardless of the shape of your eye and can meet any personal preference. Brands like Lilac St, BellaLash, Lash Affair can help you find the best fit for you.

If you want the winter fairy look, a pale face with rosebud cheeks and lips is a great way to go. To get that naturally flushed look, use a cheek and lip stain and then layer a matching powder over it. This will keep the blush fresher for longer on your big day
