Another inspiring Toronto Men’s Fashion Week has kicked off and the FW (#TOMFW17) collections are looking better than ever. Toronto talent is definitely stepping it up, and I can’t wait to take a peak at what the rest of the designers this week have in store. Want an insiders front row seat perspective of the shows? Make sure to follow us on Instagram where we have been dropping a quick gallery of each designer’s collection just minutes after the show.
HELMER
Joseph Helmer is known for his expertise in tailoring, construction techniques, along with interesting blend of style and materials. Helmer’s runway show tonight which officially opened the Toronto Fall/Winter 2017 Men’s Fashion Event is no different. It included a wide range of tailored suiting in tartan and handsome pinstripes, attention-commanding overcoats, captivating play on proportions with his sportswear pieces, and let’s not forget the interesting sashes that were shown with almost every look. The collection itself feels like a juxtaposition between tribal influences set in a concrete jungle of city-dwellers.

CURTIS OLAND
The Toronto based designer most often known for his “raw [and] organic aesthetic” with inspirations deeply rooted from his homeland, the Okanagan Valley, produced a magnificent collection of soft tailoring through the use of earth-toned natural fabrics and “unconventional textural details” which gave the audience a sense of peace and tranquility, while reconnecting our appreciation to nature’s immense beauty. My favorite piece would have to be the multi-leveled winter coat belted with raw and unprocessed yarns.

HIP AND BONE
With their mission to redefine active wear basics and re-immerse comfortable essentials in luxurious materials, Hip and Bone definitely gave us a sneak peak of what to expect for the modern man’s after-work closet this Fall Winter 2017 season would look like. From slimming cargo pants to hi-lo popovers and grosgrain-details used throughout the collection; bombers, parkas, sweaters, and pants, Hip and Bone is definitely revolutionizing the way we think about comfort.

KOLLAR
The Kollar gang has taken over the runway for the Day 1 closing of Toronto Fall/Winter 2017 Fashion Event. This streetwear-inspired label is giving us a swaggering and trendy experience for the night with untucked curved-hem button downs layered underneath hoodies, bombers, or parkas that were styled with strategically-destroyed denim or just a comfortable boxy yet fitted long tee. The collection overall exudes a sense effortlessness yet highly saturated with an urbane edge.
