Sip like a Samurai!

If you’re still debating red or white, it’s time to raise a new glass and let sake take the stage!

It’s no surprise that Japanese cuisine is having a moment as seen in our 2024 Michelin guides, but the National spirit that captures the heart and culture of Japan has yet to be fully discovered by Canadians.

Cue one of only two sake Samurais in Canada, Michael Tremblay, a bonafide sake expert who is travelling across Canada to rectify this situation.

Michael wants Canadians to know that sake isn’t just for sushi.  It’s a highly versatile spirit that pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes and cuisines.  From a crisp and floral chilled Ginjo, to a bright Yuzu that delivers a citrusy punch, or a warm Junmai that delivers comfort in a cup – sake satisfies all palates, occasions and seasons.

But availability and awareness of sake remain low in Canada, which is why the Japanese External Trade Organization and the Consulate General of Japan came together last month to host an immersive cultural experience designed to educate Canadians on sake.

With authentic tastings led by the sake Samurai himself, guests explored traditional food pairings and live cultural performances, bringing sake into the Canadian spotlight where it belongs!

Delicious with fresh seafood like shrimp and oysters or your favourite comfort foods like noodles and braised meats, sake is a secret gem that deserves a spot on your bar cart.

So next time you raise a glass, be sure to give sake a shot. Kanpai!
