Singer/Songwriter, Entrepreneur, and Fitness Guru, and Devoted Mother, Stacey Jackson proves she can juggle it all
Stacey Jackson continues to prove to the world that she can do it all. As a singer/songwriter, entrepreneur, and fitness guru, Jackson’s favorite job is being a mother to her four children. Stacey’s story is an incredibly unique one as she launched her music career and shot to fame at the age of 40. Stacey is a firm believer in never giving up and following your dreams. She continues to instill this powerful message in her now grown children especially to her 14 year old daughter.
Stacey’s journey to where she thrives today was not an easy path. After graduating from college, Stacey worked at Lifetime Television in the publicity department in New York City. In the evenings, she sang in the Motown band, Fuzzy Dice. After her second child arrived, Stacey shifted gears and started her own public relations company enabling her to have a more flexible schedule, and spend more time with her growing children. Stacey was at a crossroads when she moved to London and had the opportunity to be a US publicist based in London or pursue her dream to create music. She decided to go with the latter because she knew deep down that music was her real passion. “I didn’t want to be 80 and look back at my life and think ‘I could have done that” emphasizes Jackson.
Jackson admits that she was a bit insecure starting off in the music industry, an industry that tends to favor newbies who are typically younger. But what powered her was that she was able to use her previous life experiences in the entrepreneurial and PR world to propel her music career. After having two more kids, she got her first ever music gig in London at Cafe de Paris. Jackson knew this was her chance to record an album and fulfill her lifelong dream of recording music. After contacting a bandmate, she created an album for a music charity that would ultimately change her life forever.
Stacey was able to work with hundreds of talented kids from all over the UK to raise funds for the charity while also recording covers for her album. Jackson reminses, “And then one DJ remixed one of the tracks off this charity record and suddenly I’m sitting between Lady Gaga and the Scissor Sisters on the dance charts. I was literally catapulted in the dance music industry– a genre of music I grew up listening to and teaching fitness classes to, back in the 1990s”. Following the success of her debut single, Stacey went on to release 4 albums including a single with the iconic Snoop Dogg. She has also gone on to collaborate with Papa Levi and other well-known dance music producers and remixers.
Stacey’s dream to pursue a career in music was finally fulfilled as she had the opportunity to tour the world and take the stage at Pride and perform at major stadiums in her trademark high heels and hotpants. Internationally recognized for her music, Stacey decided to pursue another project she had always dreamed of fulfilling. As someone who started dancing at the age of 13, Stacey has always loved helping others realize their personal fitness goals and sharing her passions for health and fitness.
Constantly in search of the perfect sports top that was easy to get in and out of and offered full coverage, Stacey knew what she had to do. With no luck finding the perfect one, Stacey decided to jump on this opportunity and create one herself. Initially selling her StaeFit tops on a UK home shopping channel, the tops have now expanded to Staefit.com and Amazon.co.uk. At the age of 48, Stacey has also designed leggings to compliment the StaeFit tops and an ‘at home’ exercise video with the goal to encourage women to be the best possible version of themselves.
With a huge social media following and many things to juggle, Stacey’s key advice for others is “Support, support, support! I prioritise my family and have never missed a school play, a parents’ night, a birthday or any major milestone”. Especially during the pandemic and lockdown, Stacey has cited it was an adjustment getting used to her whole family living under the same roof.
Luckily, she has a recording studio in her attic and she was able to spend some alone time, working on her debut musical book titled “How Snoop Dogg Made Me A Better Mom”. Jackson co-wrote the book with friend and former journalist for The Times, Ruth Elkins. “It’s the first complete book of a trilogy that’s in development” explained Jackson. Stacey also has a number of projects set for release in 2021 and the near future including a cameo appearance in the film “Reboot Camp”, her remastered record “Live It Up :Rebooted.”
With many exciting new projects on her plate, Stacey Jackson is proof that no matter how old you are, it is never too late to pursue your dreams.
