Oz Perkins’ latest film, Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe, is poised to be a highlight in this year’s horror lineup.

Set to hit theatres on July 12, the film promises unique twists and atmospheric tension.

Longlegs departs from typical horror tropes by seamlessly blending psychological and supernatural elements, introducing inventive twists that maintain an unsettling atmosphere and offer a fresh perspective within the genre.

Nicolas Cage delivers a chilling and mesmerizing performance in this film. His portrayal of the enigmatic Longlegs is both haunting and compelling, leaving you wanting more of his eerie presence. Maika Monroe, as FBI agent Lee Harker, is equally impressive. Her character’s telepathic abilities and fierce determination to crack the case provide a strong counterpoint to Cage’s sinister role.

Under Perkins’ direction, Longlegs excels visually. The cinematography is stunning, using light and shadow to create a claustrophobic and eerie atmosphere. This visual style amps up the tension and supports the slow-burn narrative, building up to a climactic final act.

Longlegs offers a slow burn, but it rewards patient viewers with a thrilling conclusion. The film takes its time to develop characters and plot, which might feel slow to some. However, the last 20 minutes deliver a rapid and satisfying wrap-up that ties everything together. This pacing allows for a deeper dive into the story’s psychological aspects, making the final payoff worth the wait. That being said, it’s too early to crown Longlegs as the best horror movie of the year. With a strong lineup of horror films expected in 2024, including Nosferatu and others, the competition will be fierce.

Overall, Longlegs is a well-crafted horror film that pushes the boundaries of the genre. With its unique twists, standout performances, and exceptional cinematography, it stands out among recent horror releases. While it may not be the scariest or fastest-paced film, it offers a rewarding and thought-provoking experience. Horror fans should definitely see it in theatres for the full atmospheric effect.

Longlegs, directed by Oz Perkins, releases in theatres on July 12. Don’t miss the chance to experience this chilling thriller on the big screen.
