Alessio Della Valle is a distinguished Italian film director, screenwriter, and multidisciplinary artist whose work transcends traditional cinematic storytelling.
Born and raised in Florence, Italy, Della Valle has demonstrated a lifelong passion for art, music, and film, seamlessly weaving these elements into his creative pursuits. His extensive travels across more than ten countries by age 30 and his multilingual abilities have significantly shaped his artistic vision and narrative style.
Della Valle’s journey into the world of art began at the tender age of 17 when he spent an entire summer as an assistant fresco painter under the mentorship of the renowned Master Luciano Guarnieri. Working on a cycle of three frescoes at the historic Church of Badia in Tuscany, designed by master architect Giovanni Michelucci, Della Valle immersed himself in an ancient painting technique once practised by Michelangelo and the Renaissance greats. This formative experience profoundly influenced his artistic sensibilities, fostering a deep appreciation for classical artistry that would later manifest in his filmmaking.
Della Valle pursued his higher education at Bologna University, earning a cum laude degree in DAMS (Drama, Art, and Music Studies). He further honed his craft by studying Theatre and Drama at the Samuel Beckett Center, Trinity College in Dublin, and Film Directing at the Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood. Additionally, his studies at the Music Academy of Florence equipped him with the ability to compose orchestral music and play multiple instruments, enriching his multidisciplinary artistic profile.
As a filmmaker, Della Valle has worked with some of the most prestigious names in the entertainment industry. He directed commercials for global brands such as Disney, Hello Kitty, Bose, UNESCO, and Fiat. He also directed Giacomo Puccini’s opera The Girl of the Golden West in Los Angeles, showcasing his versatility in merging cinematic and theatrical storytelling.
A defining moment in his career came with the release of his debut feature film, American Night. The movie, starring acclaimed actors such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Emile Hirsch, Jeremy Piven, and Paz Vega, premiered at the 78th Venice Film Festival. Distributed by Lionsgate in the United States and released as a SKY Originals in the UK, the film garnered widespread acclaim, with Deadline Hollywood praising Della Valle’s “unique perspective” and Film Threat hailing it as “one of the best films of the year.” The Oscars even requested the screenplay to be included in the Academy’s Permanent Core Collection for study and preservation.
Beyond filmmaking, Della Valle is also a pioneering artist and intellectual force. He founded The Art of Awakening, an art movement encouraging deep introspection and enlightenment through artistic expression. The movement’s manifesto, published by UNESCO and the historic Vallecchi publishing house, has positioned him as a thought leader in contemporary art. His works have been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, as well as in London, Rome, Prague, Budapest, Dublin, and Paris.
Della Valle’s contributions extend beyond the realm of art and cinema. He has served as the Head of International for the Producers Guild of Italy and was a member of the Youth Jury at the 60th and 61st Venice Film Festivals. His work has been recognized by esteemed publications such as Fortune, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stone, and TEDx.
An artist with a humanitarian heart, Della Valle has actively engaged in charity work, including feeding the homeless—a mission that led to a personal meeting with Pope Francis. His profound impact on the artistic world and his unwavering dedication to social causes cemented his legacy as a visionary filmmaker and cultural icon.
