What to Do About Unwanted Hair Loss

Sailun Tires

When a person starts losing their hair, they may feel uncomfortable and insecure about their appearance. If you have noticed your hair is thinning out, you probably want to know what you can do to keep the hair from falling out.

Try Medication

Several drugs are currently out on the market for those that are experiencing hair loss. These drugs are minoxidil and finasteride. These two drugs work differently to prevent hair loss while potentially increasing hair growth. For example, minoxidil is used to improve blood circulation around the hair follicles, encouraging hair to grow from those follicles. However, the finasteride is used to prevent DHT from causing a person to lose hair follicles. Although these medications can help in different ways, they can cause some side effects, such as erectile dysfunction and inflammation of the skin. You can read more on the Johns Hopkins Health Alert website.

Try a Laser Comb

Along with using the two different drugs that are currently available to help combat hair loss, you can always use a laser comb. These combs have been approved by the Federal Drug Administration and are safe to use. Studies show that those who were willing to use a laser comb a few times a week were more likely to experience new hair growth than others. It is believed that the lasers that are used help to stimulate hair follicle growth.

Switch Up Your Usual Hair Products

Some products that people commonly use in their hair could potentially cause extra strands to fall out. If products contain too many chemicals, the chemicals can weigh the strands down, eventually causing them to detach and fall right out. You should try not to use gel, hairspray, or other products that are not exactly good for the hair. Stick with natural products or products that do not contain nearly as many chemicals. You should look for sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, too.

Use Cold Water in the Shower

While you may not want to take a cold shower, you should wash your hair with cold water. If you are constantly washing your hair under extremely hot water, the water can remove the important oils that you need to have on your scalp to encourage healthy hair growth. These oils keep the scalp healthy and prevent it from becoming excessively dry.

Look for Shampoo That Fights DHT

Because DHT is one of the most common reasons for hair loss, it makes sense to look for a shampoo product that is going to help you fight it. You can look for products that contain a specific ingredient, ketoconazole, which works a lot like finasteride. Because you are applying it to the scalp, you do not need to worry about any unwanted side effects occurring.

Start Massaging Your Scalp

Give your scalp a nice massage in the morning and before bed. If you are massaging your scalp, you can get your blood circulating, which could encourage hair to start growing from the follicles. Not only is it good for hair growth, but a scalp massage can leave you feeling less stressed and much happier.

Consider a Hair Transplant

Although it is one of the drastic treatment options, you can always undergo a hair transplant. The transplant process is invasive and involves a step-by-step process where hair follicles are taken from other areas of the head where the hair is still growing and are then grafted to other sections of the head where the hair is not growing. Different types of techniques may be used. Some medical professionals are using stem cells when performing hair transplants for their patients.

If you are losing your hair, you do have options. These are some of the options you might want to consider now that you are noticing a difference in the way that your hair looks.
