Royole FlexPai Folding Smartphone

Ever thought you’ll be using a foldable smartphone in this lifetime?

Chinese smartphone maker Royole just won the race to launching the first foldable smartphone in the world. Dubbed as the FlexPai, it has a 7.8-inch display (that’s about as big as an iPad) which shrinks into just 4-inches when bent. The phone is equipped with a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 20-megapixel telephoto camera. The screen has a 1920 x 1440 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio.

Currently, the phone runs Royole’s own operating system, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8150 processor paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM. Users can also choose among 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of internal storage with an option to expand the memory with microSD.

Is the FLexiPai an exciting new gadget? Definitely!

Is it – strictly speaking-  a smartphone? Perhaps that’s up for debate.

Is it something we’ll use everyday? We’re actually not quite sure yet. But we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what’s to come in the months ahead

Pre-orders can be made for December deliveries but you probably wouldn’t want to get one now, unless you’re in China because carrier support is currently limited to Chinese networks.
