“100 Years”: Pharrell’s Latest Track Will Debut in 2117

Like Pharrell, Cognac, and the planet you inhabit? Presuming your answer is, “Um…yeah!”, then you’re sure to find the partnership between Louis XIII Cognac and Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Pharrell Williams intriguing.

“Think A Century Ahead” is the slogan behind the incomparable, epicurean Cognac from Louis XIII, the brand that attests: “Each decanter is the life achievement of generations of Cellar Masters.” Dating all the way back to 1874, the success of Louis XIII Cognac depends upon legacy. Each generation of Cellar Masters, including present-day Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau, must carefully put aside the finest eaux-de-vie and pass it on to his successor to achieve the signature flavor that can come only from the unique blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie sourced from the Cognac region of France over the course of a century.

The Remy Cointreau Group (which includes Louis XIII) has had a longstanding commitment to Mother Nature not just for the sake of the Grande Champagne Terroir where Louis XIII is produced, but for the planet as a whole and for the planet’s future. Just as Louis XIII depends on the legacy and commitment of its predecessors to produce the very best quality Cognac, the planet depends on the legacy and commitment of its citizens to insure future generations can enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature as we have.

A partnership between Pharrell Williams and Louis XIII makes perfect sense, as the two share a commitment and concern for the environmental issues facing the 21st century. Williams states, “I love the fact that LOUIS XIII thinks a century ahead…We should all do the same for the planet. We have a common interest in preserving nature for the future. Each bottle is the life achievement of generations of men and women. It’s all about legacy and transmission.” To do his part in preserving the environment and helping to prevent climate change, Pharrell wrote a song entitled “100 Years,” also known as “The Song We’ll Only Hear If We Care.”

Pharrell performed “100 Years,” once, and once only, for a private audience of 100 guests in Shanghai. The next people to hear the brilliant song will not be us, but rather audiences in 2117, 100 years from now. This will only happen, that is, “if we care.” Pharrell’s song is being stored on a record made out of clay from the soils of the Cognac region of France and kept in a custom safe that can only be destroyed by water submersion. Thus, if global warming continues on its rapid path, and sea levels continue to rise, this safe (with Pharrell’s exclusive track inside) will be underwater before it is ever heard.

Fortunately, we can all make some simple life changes to help our planet and slow the effects of climate change. Here are a few tips to aide our planet and to help insure future generations get to hear some brilliant music:

1. Replace your bulbs

Switch out your incandescent bulbs for LEDs. LED bulbs are more energy efficient, and although they may cost slightly more initially, their lifespan far outweighs those of conventional bulbs, saving you money in the long-run and conserving energy for our planet.

2. Stop water waste

You’ve heard it before–turn off the water when you brush your teeth, cut your shower time by a couple minutes, and be sure your appliance and faucets are eco- friendly. These small steps can help conserve water and reduce carbon pollution as well.

3. Unplug idle devices

Once your device is charged, unplug it. Keep infrequently used items plugged into power strips so you can easily turn them off when not in use. Further, adjust the settings on your electronic devices so that they go into power-saving mode when not in use.

4. Monitor your tires

Simply checking your tire pressure and making your tires are optimally inflated will save on gas. This will help your wallet and reduce emissions for the sake of our planet.

5. Be an advocate

Use your voice through social media, letters to local, state or federal government, or simply to your friends. Help educate others about the scary effects of global warming and the small changes we can all make #IfWeCare.
