Casinos have relaxed their dress codes over the years. In the past, they were extremely strict, and players would have to wear a full tuxedo just to make it to the floor. This isn’t the case anymore, and players have a lot more freedom and flexibility. This doesn’t mean you can wear sandals and shorts though, there are still some rules in place. We’ve looked closer to see what players must wear to play at casinos.

Slot Floor

The slot floor tends to be the most relaxed part of the casino. Here, you won’t have to wear anything more than smart casual. You can probably get away with a pair of smart jeans, a t-shirt, and smart sneaker shoes on the slot floor. This is something that most people wear, but if this is still too much for you then maybe playing online is the right choice for you. If you play online then there’s no dress code, you can dump the smart t-shirt, because you don’t need it when here

As we mentioned, this is the most relaxed area of the casino, so there are still some areas, and events where you will need to dress much more smartly.

Poker Rooms

Poker rooms require a little bit more etiquette than the slot floor.  While you won’t have to wear a black tie outfit, you may have to go up from smart casual attire. A polo shirt is more acceptable than a t-shirt, and sneakers will be a no go. On top of this, some of the more upmarket casinos will expect players to wear a shirt and jacket, in order to play in a Poker room.

If you’re playing in a VIP room, then things can be even stricter. Some will have laxer rules, as some VIPs may feel that a dress code is beneath them. It means that you will have to check on the specific rules that are in place before you enter. So, if you’re playing at an upmarket VIP room with very strict rules, then it’s likely you will need to wear a shirt and tie. If it’s accessible for rich and famous people who don’t want to follow the rules, then it’s likely you will be able to get in in much more casual clothes.

Other table games follow similar rules to Poker rooms. So, if you’re playing Blackjack, Baccarat or Roulette, then it’s likely that you will have to wear a shirt and jacket at the very least. Of course, the different rooms will have their own rules, so they are important to check first.

High Society Events

If you’re fortunate enough to be invited to a high society event, then you will have to wear black tie. This is, because it’s more than just the casino floor for this event. These events are often fundraisers for different charities or political campaigners. This means that a lot of important people will be there, and the event has a certain level of decorum attached.

As such, it’s vital to check the dress code on the invite before you arrive. There will be no concessions in place for an event of this kind.  If you don’t meet the dress code requirements, then quite simply you won’t be allowed to enter. As these events are often very hard to get an invite to, it’s important to make sure that you make a good impression. Adhering to the dress code is the best way to make sure your first impression is a good one.
