A Luxurious Escape: Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Hidden Gem 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa

Sailun Tires

Nestled in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, 124 on Queen Hotel & Spa is a property you’ll want to add to your travel list.

Despite our brief stay, it’s clear why this boutique hotel is renowned for its prime location, luxe accommodations, and farm-to-table cuisine.

Warm Welcomes and Elegant Accommodations

The 124 on Queen Hotel & Spa offers 80 rooms spread across six charming buildings, each designed to honour the town’s heritage. Recently renovated, the boutique hotel features a 12,000-square-foot spa and stunning event spaces ideal for weddings and more. Additionally, it boasts the only underground parking garage in Niagara-on-the-Lake, providing guests with unmatched convenience.

Check-in was a breeze, with the staff greeting us warmly and providing excellent service. Our room felt like a cozy, modern sanctuary with a warm indoor fireplace, plush bedding, and a kitchenette fully equipped with a Nespresso machine and mini fridge. The lovely outdoor patio, complete with seating and a fire pit, was perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or unwinding on a summer evening.

The Spa at Q

Eager to experience the in-house spa, we booked the hydrotherapy wellness circuit in advance. The Spa at Q exudes modern luxury, offering a variety of treatments like massages, facials, wellness therapies, and body treatments. You’ll find eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, saunas, sensory showers, cold and hot pools, and salt therapy chambers designed to help you unwind.

The Hydrotherapy Wellness Circuit offers guests a sensory experience that includes a circuit of hot, cold, and rest, utilizing the saunas, pools, and sensory showers. It is said that the thermal shock from switching between hot and cold enhances blood flow, circulation, sleep, and the immune system. One of my favourite elements of experiencing the circuit was the unique snow-themed room (the only one in Canada), which offered a refreshing and invigorating escape. Between circuits, I indulged in refreshing wine from the Niagara region, available on the spa’s menu.

Culinary Delights at 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa

After the rejuvenating experience at the spa, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the hotel offers its guests a complimentary daily amuse-bouche. This is not a common practice for most hotels and was greatly appreciated. Expecting something along the lines of pretzels and olives, we were delighted to be greeted with a luxurious beef tartare. Although the plate was a small snack, it was a very thoughtful touch that set the stage for dinner at Notl and Treadwell for brunch.

Dinner at Notl

Notl’s Tuna Starter

Notl, the in-house restaurant at 124 on Queen, exudes sophistication, class, and excellent service. We started with their signature tuna dish (a favourite), which presented an explosion of flavours. This was followed by the gnocchi carbonara (a creamy masterpiece) and the hearty beef tenderloin. Each dish showcased the chefs’ expertise and creativity, making dinner at Notl unforgettable. Be sure to check the Notl Bar & Restaurant menu for special dishes before visiting.

Farm-to-Table Brunch at Treadwell

The next morning, we eagerly ventured to Treadwell for brunch, looking forward to their farm-to-table offerings. The restaurant’s relaxed yet charming ambiance was a refreshing contrast to Notl. Opting for the lobster eggs benedict was a decision I didn’t regret; each bite offered a generous serving of fresh lobster perfectly complemented by velvety poached eggs and homemade hollandaise. If you love eggs benedict like I do, this is a must-try.

Enjoying a Prime Location in Niagara-on-the-Lake

It’s worth noting that one of the best aspects of staying at 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa is its prime location in the heart of wine country. Niagara-on-the-Lake is famous for its vineyards and distilleries, making it a perfect destination for wine enthusiasts. During the summer, the region comes alive with wine-tasting events and tours. A short drive from the hotel brings you to renowned wineries and distilleries, which offer some of the finest wines and spirits. The hotel also happens to be an official sponsor of the Royal George Theatre, home of the Shaw Festival, so guests can also enjoy premium theatre packages and tickets to upcoming performances.

Checking out was easy (and bittersweet), as this boutique hotel is the epitome of a one-stop destination for good food, restful accommodations, and a great spa. Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a solo retreat, or a special event, 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa is the ultimate destination for the savvy traveller.
