The Gabby Giffords Organization, led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, has the purpose of saving lives from gun violence.

Focusing on community intervention, the Gabby Giffords Organization strives to achieve stricter gun laws and provide better resources to stop the cycle of violence that the United States is currently experiencing. The 10th anniversary of the Gabby Giffords Organization was celebrated at the end of May. New artwork titled “Guns Kill” honored the occasion.

Painted by Bonnie Lautenberg, “Guns Kill” was created to help support the message that Americans are choosing to demand a safer future by coming together to eliminate gun violence. Bonnie Lautenberg explained that she created this piece of artwork especially for Gabby Giffords and her organization.

Featuring an image of the Statue of Liberty with tears streaming down her face and location names on her arm for the many places in the U.S. that have experienced a mass shooting in recent years, the intent of “Guns Kill” was to address the new legislation that has been put into motion in several states that allows people without any permits or training to purchase and carry concealed firearms. Lautenberg made a reference to several studies that have proven there is a higher risk of gun violence when gun laws are weakened. When a state decides to remove certain rules, such as live fire training and violent misdemeanor prohibitions, there is a 22% increase in gun assaults as well as a 35% increase in gun homicides. This painting shows what we can suspect Lady Liberty feels about the state of her nation.

The Giffords organization has been a predominant force in the movement to end gun violence in the United States. Under the direction of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the Gabby Giffords Organization is based on decades of political, legal, and policy expertise. In the year 2021, almost 50,000 people in the U.S. died because of gun violence. As more and more communities are affected by these tragedies, there has become a much bigger need to introduce gun safety laws to our legal system. Since 2012, the Gabby Giffords Organization has assisted in passing over 525 different gun safety laws all across the U.S., including Washington, D.C.

You can contribute to the cause by visiting the official website and you can receive a first edition Guns Kill fine art print that is personally signed by Lautenberg. All of the proceeds will go to the Gabrielle Giffords organization’s mission to help protect Americans from gun violence.
